I am sitting in my office looking down on the exercise floor of The Club watching Sue and Bruce challenge each other to exercise harder. Other members are walking, running, lifting, pushing, pulling, stretching or crunching. I am in awe of my members. I so admire anyone who can be motivated enough to join a club and then actually come in and exercise. Sue, Bruce, Ted, Jim, Ada and so many others working out on the equipment come in five or six days a week. When I asked Sue how she stays motivated she said that she loves to exercise. Even if she is tired, once she starts it perks her up and makes her feel happy. Anna, The Club's General Manager, also works out hard seven days a week and claims to like it. I, on the other hand, am still looking for the proverbial "pill" to fix this aging problem I seem to have. The only exercise I am religious about is the exercise of finding excuses.
I am in the perfect position to gather new excuses. Most everyone I meet socially or in business starts talking to me about how they know they should exercise, but... Its usually the same old and tired excuses. I don't have the time. Or...I have to watch my grandkids. My back hurts is always a good one. I do not solicit these confessions, but the when subject is raised I find it hard not to respond.
- No time? Take the time now or spend it in your Doctor's waiting room.
- No money? Cholesterol, blood pressure and diabetes medications don't come cheap.
- Watch your grandkids? Go for a walk with them, or let them stay in our kidsitting room.
- Your back hurts? Every doctor out there will tell you swimming is a great way to treat back problems. Don't swim? Come to The Club. I'll show you easy pool exercises.
Let me hear your best excuses.
